Good relationships in step-families

About 11% of families in the UK with children are step-families – children or young people living with adults who are not their parents, for some or all of the time.

Step-families can work very well, but they can also have extra challenges.

  • You have to find ways of coping with step-parents, and perhaps step-brothers or sisters.
  • You may have to move to a new place and follow different family rules.
  • Your parent may behave differently with their new partner and you might find that uncomfortable.

Don’t be surprised if you find some things hard.
