You may have heard about breast cancer or you may know an adult who has been affected. It is extremely rare for teenagers to develop breast cancer – over 80% of cases occur in women over 50 – so you should not worry about it at this stage.
Breast Cancer Care has a very helpful website with information specifically for teenage girls who may be worried about breast cancer, so if you are worried click on the link and find out more.
Any lumps you may feel in your breasts will almost certainly be part of your normal teenage development but if you are at all worried, please make an appointment to see your GP.
Some girls have painful breasts before their period – this normally lasts only for a couple of days and is nothing to worry about. If your breasts are extremely painful for longer than a few days before your period, again make an appointment to discuss with your GP.
