Home-made breakfast granola

Ingredients

300g rolled oats

3 tbsp brown suguar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

4 tbsp vegetable oil

80 ml runny honey

200g mixed nuts, seeds, dried fruit – whatever you like best!

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 160°C/325°F/Gas 3
  2. In a large bowl, mix the oats with the sugar, salt and spices
  3. Add the oil and honey and mix again very well
  4. Spread mixture out in a large baking tray and cook in pre-heated oven for around 15-20 mins until crisped up. Stir mixture around a couple of times during cooking, and watch to see that it doesn’t get too brown
  5. Remove tray from oven and leave mixture to get cool
  6. Add nuts, seeds and fruit to taste
  7. Store the mixture in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks

Notes

  1. Serve as a normal cereal with milk, or add as a topping to yoghurt. Add berries and fresh fruit if you wish
  2. Once you’ve mastered the basic method, play around with ingredients and flavours to your taste – add different flakes, syrup instead of honey, different spices ….
