You will not generally need to pay for your education costs at a state sixth form or a local further education college.
Travel
Your local authority may offer help with travel costs – you can check out what is available in your local area here if you live in England or Wales.
Other costs
Depending on your circumstances, you might have other costs. Help may be available:
- for accommodation costs if you are studying far from home
- for talented dance and drama students at private dance and drama schools
- for miscellaneous costs such as books, clothes or equipment through the 16-19 Bursary Scheme in England or the Education Maintenance Allowance in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Apprenticeships
If you do a formal apprenticeship, you will get paid for the time you are at work. The current National Minimum Wage rates for apprentices can be found here. If you are aged 16 to 18, there is also funding for 100% of your course costs.
