Break-up tracks

Whether you’re furious, relieved or broken-hearted, there’s a song here for you:

Stop Dragin’ My Heart Around – Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty. Fabulous live version from two rock icons.

Part of Me – Katy Perry. Use that feeling – it makes you strong.

Somebody That I Used To Know ft. Kimbra – Gotye. Catchy and to the point.

You’re So Vain – Carly Simon. She’s over him.

Someone Like You – Adele. Tissues at the ready…

You Oughta Know – Alanis Morissette. Bitter, feisty, angry. Fabulous.

Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac. Raw song written by one of the band members to one of the other band members. Awkward. Hear more on Fleetwood Mac’s most famous album ‘Rumours’.

With Or Without You – U2. From the highly acclaimed album ‘The Joshua Tree’. Listen to it if you haven’t already.

You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling – The Righteous Brothers. Brings a lump to your throat.

Walk On By – Dionne Warwick. Dignified, beautiful heart-break song.

There Is A Light That Never Goes Out – The Smiths. This is sublime. If you’ve not come across The Smiths before, also listen to How Soon Is Now (which is also sublime).

I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor. Girl power in its true sense.

Don’t You Want Me Baby – Human League. Classic 80’s pop.

Alive – Pearl Jam. Lead singer Eddie Vedder passionately belts it out. This track is not strictly a break-up song lyrically but the sentiment is there – you survive; you’re ‘Alive’.

Song to the Siren – This Mortal Coil. The hauntingly beautiful voice of Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins). One for wallowing in.

Days – Kirsty MacColl. A beautiful homage to a past love.

I Just Don’t Know What To Do – Dusty Springfield. You can hear the despair in her voice.

Don’t Speak – No Doubt
